چکیده

A highly sensitive refractive index (RI) sensor based on two cascaded microfiber knots with vernier effect is proposed and demonstrated by theoretical arithmetic. Deriving from high proportional evanescent field of microfiber and sharp spectrum fringes induced by vernier effect, a slight change of ambient RI will cause large variation of effective RI and significant wavelength shift of resonant peaks, indicating high sensitivity and resolution of the proposed compound resonator. Numerical analysis demonstrates a high sensitivity of 10000nm/RIU and a resolution of 5 5.57 10 × RIU at the ambient RI around 1.33 for the fiber diameter of 1μm and cavity radii of 1 500 R m μ = , 2 547.62 R m μ = .

Highly sensitive refractive index sensor based on cascaded microfiber knots with Vernier effect.

We propose and experimentally demonstrate a refractive index (RI) sensor based on cascaded microfiber knot resonators (CMKRs) with Vernier effect. Deriving from high proportional evanescent field of microfiber and spectrum magnification function of Vernier effect, the RI sensor shows high sensitivity as well as high detection resolution. By using the method named "Drawing-Knotting-Assembling (D...

Tunable comb filters and refractive index sensors based on fiber loop mirror with inline high birefringence microfiber.

Highly birefringent (Hi-Bi) microfiber-based fiber loop mirrors (FLMs) were studied for tunable comb filters and refractive index (RI) sensors. The use of two cascaded Hi-Bi microfibers instead of a single microfiber allows more flexibility in controlling the transmission/reflection characteristics of the FLM. The length of Hi-Bi microfibers is of the order of centimeters, one or even more than...

A Highly Sensitive Refractometric Sensor Based on Cascaded SiN Microring Resonators

We investigate a highly sensitive optical sensor based on two cascaded microring resonators exploiting the Vernier effect. The architecture consists of two microrings with a slight difference in their free spectral ranges. This allows the generation of the Vernier effect for achieving ultra-high sensitivities. The sensor chip was fabricated using a silicon nitride platform and characterized wit...

Modeling of a Single-Notch Microfiber Coupler for High-Sensitivity and Low Detection-Limit Refractive Index Sensing

A highly sensitive refractive index sensor with low detection limit based on an asymmetric optical microfiber coupler is proposed. It is composed of a silica optical microfiber and an As₂Se₃ optical microfiber. Due to the asymmetry of the microfiber materials, a single-notch transmission spectrum is demonstrated by the large refractive index difference between the two optical microfibers. Compa...

Highly Sensitive Refractive Index Sensor Based on Adiabatically Tapered Microfiber Long Period Gratings

We demonstrate a refractive index sensor based on a long period grating (LPG) inscribed in a special photosensitive microfiber with double-clad profile. The fiber is tapered gradually enough to ensure the adiabaticity of the fiber taper. In other words, the resulting insertion loss is sufficiently small. The boron and germanium co-doped inner cladding makes it suitable for inscribing gratings i...
